Easy DIY Shower Spray with Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree essential oil is such a powerful and clarifying oil.

For centuries people have used tea tree essential oil to reduce coughs and colds. Tea tree also helps strengthen energetic boundaries and break negative ties to unhealthy relationships. Imagine not only cleaning your home with non-toxic products but also releasing toxic energies that drain you.

Tea tree oil contains terpinen-4-ol, a natural compound that helps kill some bacteria and fungi, making tea tree oil an excellent anti-fungal agent.

As a simple cleaning agent, tea tree oil sprays are great for cleaning and sanitising in a way that doesn’t leave any unwanted chemical traces that could be potentially harmful.

I use tea tree oil around the house to clean counters, freshen laundry (and get rid of any unwanted scents after a long yoga class), freshen up the shower, and clean doorknobs.

I don’t know about you, but I hate when the shower gets musty and mildewy. It grosses me out, but I also hate the idea of spending 20 minutes scrubbing the shower.

By spraying tea tree oil throughout the shower as soon as you get out, your shower will stay fresher longer between deep cleaning sessions.

Here’s a simple, fool-proof recipe for a must-have tea tree oil shower spray:

  1. In a BPA free spray bottle, add a cup of distilled water
  2. Then add half a cup of white vinegar
  3. And 20-30 drops of tea tree oil

White vinegar is a powerful disinfectant that is used in restaurants to clean surfaces that come into contact with food.

White vinegar is not nearly as effective as bleach in that white vinegar only kills approximately 80% of bacteria and molds (whereas bleach kills 99.8%), but it is significantly less harmful.

Also, white vinegar is great at breaking up hard water residue. If you live somewhere with a lot of calcium in the water (as evidenced by white spots on your dishes or shower door), white vinegar will take a lot of the headache and hassle out of scrubbing.

Tea tree oil is a great anti-fungal, and this spray will freshen up your shower so your shower is always relaxing and ready, even if you don’t have the time for a deep clean. Spray with intention so that you can create a protective barrier for your energy to not be drained making your showers not only physically cleansing but energetically as well!

Just make sure your lovely pets are not hanging out around your restroom as some oils are not safe for them.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint essential oil is so rejuvenating it brings me back to life. It’s fresh, soothing, and comforting, while also awakening.

For years people have used essential oil for headaches, upset stomach and to freshen breath. Although it is a great oil to have for physical use, many don’t know about it’s emotional properties.

Benefits of peppermint include:

  1. Brings optimism
  2. Helps with clarity and renewed perspective
  3. Brings strength when facing emotional pain

It’s no wonder this under-rated oil is so popular, but how do you actually use peppermint essential oil?

Here are my 5 favourite ways.

Way #1

Massage a drop or two, diluted, into your temples and base of the skull to alleviate headaches and see resolutions to issues in a clear, problem solving light. May even bring clarity and ideas in the form of problem solving dreams!

Way #2

Apply over your chest and upper back to open your airways. You’ll instantly feel you can breathe better allowing you to open your heart and soul where it once may have felt heavy with despair.

Way #3

Apply a roller of peppermint down the sides of your neck for clear communication and to unblock your throat chakra. If you’re having dreams of not being able to scream, speak or choking this shows resistance towards expressing yourself fully and using peppermint in this way will help.

Way #4

Diffuse it in your work space to keep you alert and focused especially if you need an afternoon boost.

Way #5

Massage it over your stomach if you have digestive issues or nervous knots during high levels of stress. Addressing the physical effects of stress makes it easier for the mind to not take over and gets you back on track quicker so it doesn’t turn into a full blown panic.

Sleep

My Personal Bedtime Routine

Sleep. Is. Key.

When I have a good night’s sleep, I am unstoppable. Sunlight seems warmer. Tea tastes better. I get more done, and I end the day feeling like I’m living a life worth living.

But getting a good night’s rest wasn’t always this easy.

I used to have insomnia sleeping only 3 – 4 hours a night and waking up already stressed with my heart racing. This made me more prone to getting sick, not able to concentrate on simple tasks and even more anxiety. This felt like an endless cycle.

But, then I learned that getting a good night’s sleep starts with what you do before you actually go to bed.

A bedtime routine is critically important, else you may just lie there all night with your mind jumping from one thing to the next.

Today I thought I would share what I do before bed to get my mind and body ready for a good night’s rest.

Step 1: Yoga

I like to start with some gentle movement to release any tension from my body. It helps me get more comfortable once I get to bed and not wake up feeling as stiff. Especially with our sedentary lifestyles always on the computer or sitting behind a desk this has been very helpful in preparing my body for another 7 – 8 hours of no movement as I lay in bed. My practice is sometimes an hour long but most days just 20 minutes. Make it work for you and your needs.

Step 2: Diffuse Oils

I’ll pick a calming oil to diffuse in my room which contains mild sedative properties. I’ll smell it from the bottle taking in deep breaths and apply them topically if I need a little extra support. This will create a soothing environment that will last all night so I don’t wake up throughout the night.

Step 3: Journaling

Journaling about the highs and lows of my day helps quiet the mental chatter and reflect on the lessons that came through. Nothing is worse than laying in bed revisiting everything that was said and done or creating a mental list of things to do the next day. Better put it all in paper so you can rest assured that any ideas or important things won’t be forgotten. Writing about the things that bothered you is a form of releasing them from your mind and untangling the web of lies our minds create when we hold on to a negative situation. Ending the journaling with highlights of your day will bring some gratitude in and brings sweeter dreams.

Step 4: Tea

Drinking a soothing tea such as peppermint, chamomile or a bedtime blend not only helps with digestion, morning detox but also the properties of the herbs are relaxing. Chamomile tea will immediately make me sleepy and peppermint will soothe any tummy issues that can make it hard to rest.

Step 5: Reading a book

As I drink my tea I will read a book usually related in some way to holistic healing and personal development. It brings my attention to something more empowering that my subconscious may use to further explore in my dreams.

Out of everything I have learned about setting up a bedtime routine one thing is key: give yourself permission to mess up. It takes time to build up a consistent routine.

And, what may work great for you for the first three nights, may not be sustainable long term. You might need to make a few tweaks for a week or two before you get into your groove.

Best Oils to Use in the Bedroom

Here at The Dreaming Yogi there’s a core belief I keep coming back to:

Sleep is everything.

When I am well-rested, there is literally nothing I cannot do. No challenge I can’t conquer. No dragon I can’t slay. No mountain I can’t climb.

Sleep is imperative for our mental and physical well-being. When we sleep our body starts to heal.

While we sleep our body temperature decreases, our heart rate slows down, and our blood pressure goes down.

Having a healthy relationship with sleep has been proven to improve our body’s relationship with sugar, and weight. And sleep helps us process our emotions.

But what if you’re having trouble sleeping?

What if you just can’t get your brain to turn off at night?

Turns out, you can use essential oils around the bedroom to help you catch those sought-after Zs.

Here are the top 3 ways I use essential oils to promote healthy sleep.
1. Diffuse
Diffusing essential oils in your room will create a serene environment in your space while the mist carries the small oil particles constantly throughout the night. Fill the diffuser to the line of water and add 3 – 5 drops of your preferred essential oils. Watch the video below for oil suggestions.

This video covers the 10 oils you can use in your bedroom depending on what’s keeping you up.

2. Topical
Use a diluted roller blend for your specific needs and apply it down your spine. Roll some on your palms, rub your hands together then cup your hands over your nose and take 3 to 4 deep breaths. You can massage the excess oil on the soles of your feet. This is a quicker way to bring in the soothing effects of the oils into your system.

3. Linen Spray
Create your own linen and room spray by just using an empty spray bottle (I get mine HERE) and add about 20 drops of lavender, serenity blend or whichever oil you find soothing, then fill the rest with water. Shake the mixture and spray on your pillowcase and linens.

As you can see, I am a huge fan of using essential oils to make my bedroom a healthy, healing environment. If you’re not sure where to start, pick one, and give it a try for a few nights. Whether you give diffusing, topical, or the linen spray a try, I have a sneaking suspicion you’ll fall in love with aromatherapy in your bedroom. Benefits of Citrus Bliss

Is there anything as yummy as citrus? In aromatherapy, citrus is most commonly used to help invigorate the mind. This blend, to me, smells like an orange creamsicle and pool-side vibes. What can be better than that??

For years people have used citrus essential oils to clean, use as natural room freshener and even laundry.

Some other benefits of citrus include:

  1. Household cleaners
  2. Low appetite
  3. Uplifting your mood when feeling gloomy

But doTERRA has taken citrus one step further by creating their own blend called Citrus Bliss.

This essential oil blend is easily one of my favorites, and there are numerous ways to put it to good use to improve your emotional and physical health.

Here are my 5 favorite ways.

Way #1 – Lymphatic Drainage

Apply a few drops diluted to the bottoms of your feet in a soothing foot massage for lymphatic drainage. This will help remove waste in your system that can be bogged up from the toxins we accumulate daily. It helps detox the body and promotes anti-aging effects as well. So if you’ve been feeling a bit sluggish lately check in and try this first method.

Way #2 – Moodiness

If you wake up feeling moody and just not feeling the day (a.k.a Monday vibes) add a few drops in your diffuser as you get ready for your day. The citrus oils will help uplift your mood and get you out of your funk.

Way #3 – Energy

Waking up with no energy can make the rest of the day drag even more. Apply two drops to your pulse points or around your belly (solar plexus area) and take a few deep breaths of this oil to get you going. Note: Do not add any citrus oils to skin that will be exposed to the sun since it can cause sensitivities. That is why I prefer applying it around my belly where my shirt can cover it.

Way #4 – Creativity

If you’re feeling a creators block happening or lacking inspiration and ideas, add 2 drops to your palms and cup your hands around your nose. Take a few deep breaths and allow the inspiration to come through. Have your journal handy so you can write whatever comes up.

Way #5 – Stress

Add a few drops in a diffuser bracelet or necklace or bring a custom citrus bliss inhaler with you to smell whenever you are feeling anxious. The invigorating scent and properties of these oils combined to make this blend will shift your mood in various ways. Stressed, moody, or just feeling ‘bleh’ give it to a try and see how your mood changes!

Bonus method:

Add a few drops to wool dryer balls as a natural fabric softener to bring fresh blissful scent to all your clothes. Much healthier than the other types of liquid fabric softeners! Dream Healing with Citrus Bliss

Now what does this have to do with dream healing? If you have dreams where orange or yellow are showing up a lot in negative or uncomfortable scenarios this can be showing an imbalance in the lower chakras Sacral and Solar Plexus. These centers are connected to your creativing and joy of life, passion and confidence levels at work and with your partner. These areas are also associated with hormonal and digestive issues so if you’re feeling the physical symptoms plus having dreams associated with these areas, colors, or lack of color in your dream these can point to needing a little boost from our little friend Citrus Bliss!

Dreams during Full Moon in Cancer

Tomorrow we have a full moon in Cancer which is also a Lunar Eclipse highlighting a lot of emotional triggers.

While the moon is in Cancer, we’re able to create a sense of security and bring our feelings and desires into the world. During this time, you could be prone to strong emotions. If you know how to plot your Natal Chart then you can have a better idea of what area of your life this Full moon is highlighting.

Here’s a couple of ways the cancer full moon can affect your dreams:

  1. Emotional Dreams
  2. Maternal Dreams
  3. House Dreams
  4. Healing Dreams
  5. Protective Dreams

Let’s talk about each of these in a little more depth.

Emotional Dreams

Cancer is a very emotional and sensitive sign so you may have more emotionally triggering dreams during this full moon. Depending on where the full moon falls on your personal chart and how your emotions are at this time these emotional dreams may show up as water symbols.  Water represents our emotions and the intensity of the body of water, how steady it is and how large the body of water is will show you how much these emotions are affecting you. You can also wake up feeling very emotional as sensitive matters in dreams show up.

Maternal Dreams

Cancer is also the Mother sign so literally your mom may be the main focus of your dream or your maternal figure. If you have issues with you mom these issues may show up in your dreams or you may see more feminine characters. This can also represent feminine energy of receiving and tapping into your intuition so notice how you have been feeling in these areas of your life.

House Dreams

This home-body sign can also show up as a house dream, which is pretty common, and represents your mind, body and spirit. Your personal internal home. Is this a childhood home representing some internal childhood issues to work through? Are you in a temporary home like a hotel perhaps lacking the stability of a permanent home in your waking life? The different rooms your house dreams take place in will show a different area of your personal life that you are focusing on or needs attention.

Healing Dreams

All dreams are meant for some type of healing but during this full moon areas that suggest more self care or healing may show up. Perhaps you find yourself dreaming of a yoga class or taking a spa day. Since this sign is also very intuitive it may be showing you what type of healing you need in the moment such as a different holistic modality you haven’t tried before.

Protective Dreams

Like a momma bear, this sign is also very nurturing and protective so if you may  have a dream where you are protecting something or someone, perhaps even yourself. What are you protecting yourself from and how are you doing this?

In summary, I’d like to encourage you to take time and space this week to focus on the messages that come up for you in your dreams these next few nights. Write them down, and reflect on them throughout the week.

As you can see there are an infinite variety of dreams that may show up and everyone is unique. If you’d like to learn more about astrology and how it connects to your unique dreams check out my new Cosmic Dreams course that starts January 23!

Tips for Procrastination

tips-for-procrastination

When I find myself with a large to-do list I quickly get overwhelmed, stare at the list and proceed the rest of the day dreading and not knowing where to start.  Does this sound familiar?   Procrastination is tied to stress and anxiety creating that blockage in our mind that our overflowing tasks will never be fulfilled or just the laziness that comes with feeling like it will take such a long time to complete before you can fully relax.  This can also keep you up at night and affect your dreams creating a vicious cycle.  Going to bed with a lot on your mind or regretting the tasks that were not completed will keep our mind racing.  Continue reading “Tips for Procrastination”

When I first started blogging back in 2015 I didn’t think people would read what I had to say.  I was going through a hard time and writing was my way of centering myself.  I closed that blog after three posts and focused on picking myself up.  Then, a year later, I started this blog with a clear mind and mission to help others who may be going through anxiety or stress related issues by helping them understand their dreams and all the different life lessons I have learned along the way. Squirrel

squirrel_dreams

Last night was the first time (from what I can recall) that I had a dream where a squirrel appeared in my room and I was scared of it. 😨 even though it didn’t do anything. Squirrels can represent getting by in life by working hard. Sometimes we can get discouraged or scared that all our hard work won’t pay off in the end. This was a nice reminder that it will and we have to keep doing what we’re passionate about 💜

Dream Interpretation: Food

food_dreams

My dream last night inspired my post today (cooking chicken on the sidewalk). They may seem random but every symbol is a piece to the overall message your dreams are trying to tell you. Dreaming of food can be as obvious as a craving you might have of that particular meal but it can also mean nourishment in all levels; mind, body and soul. You might be craving to spice things up in your life 😉 with the new year starting what kind of cravings are your dreams hinting at? 🍝🍛🍜
