How many of you are dealing with stress right now? Has this impacted the quality of sleep you get each night? Stress can cause a number of side effects both physically and mentally. Stress affects your sleep, impacting the quality and quantity of rest each night. When stressed your mind gets sudden sparks of mental energy where thoughts and scenarios run around based on what has you nervous. This makes it nearly impossible to shut down for the night. However, getting a good night’s sleep will reduce stress so it is all linked!
Stress management isn’t hard at all, what makes it hard is the belief that we just don’t have time for anything other than our chores and tasks. But what if I told you these practices don’t have to take more than 5 minutes and most don’t even need any additional setup.
Here are a couple of tips you can try:
🎉1. Focus on your breathing. Sounds simple but I know it can be tricky. Your mind and body are only as calm as your breath so when you are feeling overwhelmed take a moment to take deep breaths inhale and exhale to the count of 3 (or more if you can). You can also do left nostril breathing which is covering your right nostril and breathing through your left nostril which promotes relaxation.
🎉2. Color a mandala or just draw aimlessly on a piece of paper. It’s quite hard to stress when you are paying attention to your creative side. I encourage painting if you have extra time but any simple artwork would do the trick!
🎉3. Start a gratitude journal. Turn your thoughts to the positive things in your life!
There are a couple of holistic tools you can use as well such as crystals and essential oils. Just by carrying the crystal with you or smelling the oil it will help calm the mind.
Crystals for stress:
💎Amethyst – gives off a calming almost sedative energy that promotes peace of mind and emotional stability. It’s also great from promoting sweet dreams which can be hard especially when overwhelmed
💎Lithium quartz – relieves stress and tension. Promotes balance and a calm mind. It’s also known as a natural anti-depressant. This stone is also said to be self cleansing!
💎Sugilite – dissolves unwanted energies and emotions alleviating stress. It releases emotional fears as well.
🌿Peppermint – helps with feelings of tension. Also calms that unsettling stomach ache some get when stressed or nervous
🌿Lavender – reduces overwhelming feelings and promotes restful sleep. My go-to for a goodnights rest especially when my mind is racing
🌿Ylang Ylang – lifts your mood while giving a calming effect.
